2021.04.02

Today, on 2 April (Friday) 2021, launching of Nerpa, a vessel, built by Morska Stocznia Remontowa Gryfia S.A., took place. This was next vessel being built under the project "Construction of icebreakers for RZGW Gdańsk", co-financed by the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2014-2020, and commissioned by the Regional Water Management Board in Gdańsk. MSR Gryfia is carrying out for the ordering party the construction of four vessels in total: three linear icebreakers and one front icebreaker - which will operate on the section from the Włocławek to the mouth of Vistula River. The first two vessels, frontal icebreaker Puma and the first linear icebreaker Narwal, had been delivered to the ordering party for acceptance in September and October 2020. In February this year, both vessels took part in patrolling Vistula waterway during this year's ice action. The just- launched Nerpa is a linear icebreaker used to widen the trough in the ice broken by frontal icebreakers and also to break it in the area inaccessible for larger frontal icebreakers. It can sail in compact floe or slick to prevent it from clogging and fchoking the flow of water. The vessel is also fitted to serve as a tugboat, futermore, it can perform rescue, fire and hydrographic duties as well. The icebreaker is powered by a main engine that drives a fixed propeller. The last, fourth, Manat vessel is currently awaiting launching. The construction of both vessels is proceeding on time. All vessels are built under the supervision of the Polish Register of Shipping S.A.
