2020.01.23

In 2019, the Marine Ship Repair Yard Gryfia J.S.C. did on its premises, both in Szczecin and Świnoujście, work on 148 ships of various types that belong, among others, to ship-owners from Germany, Skandinavia, Greece, the Netherlands, Turkey or Norway. In addition to traditional class repairs and repair work, shipyard workers from “Gryfia” mounted on board five ships Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) by recognised world producers such as: Wartsila, ALFA Laval, Opitmarin and BIO-SEA. Besides traditional work, the “Gryfia” shipyard is now also becoming more and more skilful in performing complicated repair work related to installing apparatus for purifying a gas. The latter, however, requires having special skills. Work is carried out in dry-docks, together with Poland’s largest dry-dock no.5 with the deadweight of 17 000 tons. Lately, the shipyard has seen increased interest from ship-owners to have repairs carried out, as evidenced by the large number of queries for projects to be carried out in the first quarter of the year 2020.The first ship to be admitted to the shipyard at the turn of the year 2019/2020 (on the 31st of December 2019) was the bulk carrier “Isolda”, which is owned by the Polish Steamship Company. The ship is undergoing intermediate repair along with mounting a Ballast Water Treatment System. January of this year is characterised by big repair projects. The bulk carrier “Jean Joseph”, which belongs to a Canadian ship-owner, is now under repair. At the beginning of the week, the ferry “Skania” owned by Unity Line arrived at the shipyard for repairs. The last week of January will see the scheduled arrival of the bulk carrier “Irma”, which is the sister ship to “Isolda”. Dry-docks and berths in Świnoujście are fully booked. Work is being scheduled to do on board ships of Dutch and German ship-owners. The Marine Ship Repair yard “Gryfia” is facing a year of scheduled investments aimed at strengthening its production capacity and increasing its competitiveness. It is also a period of keeping an eye on trends and changes in the shipbuilding industry that have been caused by technological development and new environment requirements. It will also be a time when MSR “Gryfia” will be participating in many trade events organised in Poland and in the world. As of the 1st of January 2020, MSR “Gryfia” changed the address from Ludowa Street to the one situated directly on the island (the new address is as follows: 12 Brdowska Street) and started using again its previous logo that was its symbol for almost 60 years.
