Gryfia Marine Repair Shipyard S.A. has completed a key stage in the modernization of its infrastructure at the Gdynia Quay. The implementation of the project entitled “Modernization of infrastructure for the installation of a new floating dock at the Gdynia Quay in Szczecin” is a strategic step towards increasing the shipyard's operational capabilities and strengthening its market position. The general contractor for the investment is Korporacja Budowlana DORACO.
The modernized infrastructure includes, among other things, the construction of a new pier with a length of over 57 m, the reconstruction and extension of the Nabrzeże Gdyńskie, as well as the creation of a dock depth of up to 17 m. The investment also included the creation of new technical systems, including power networks, technical gas networks, and modern video surveillance and lighting systems. The entire project was designed to adapt the shipyard to handle larger vessels and to accommodate the new floating dock No. 8, which will eventually replace dock No. 1.
“The completion of the modernization work is not only a renovation of our infrastructure, but above all an investment in the future. Thanks to it, we are increasing our repair capabilities and the efficiency of shipyard operations. The new pier, the modernized and extended Nabrzeże Gdyńskie and Nabrzeże Gdańskie, and the mooring dolphins for the new dock are the foundation on which we are building our further development plans. The new dock number 8, which will be installed here in the second quarter of 2027, will become the center of our operations and will allow us to provide services at the highest global level, said Daniel Opas, President of the Management Board of Morska Stocznia Remontowa “Gryfia” S.A.
The investment significantly increases the operational capabilities of the Gryfia shipyard, ensuring, among other things, increased functionality and efficiency of shipyard operations and the servicing of larger vessels with a deadweight tonnage of up to 80,000 DWT. The general contractor for the investment at the Gryfia Shipyard is Korporacja Budowlana DORACO. The company carried out a wide range of hydrotechnical, construction, and installation works that modernized the shipyard's infrastructure. As part of the investment, the DORACO team built a new technological platform equipped with tracks for cranes and mooring devices, rebuilt the Gdynia Quay on a 316-meter section, and created a dock with an impressive depth of 17 meters. The contractor installed power cables supplying the island of Gryfia using the method of controlled underground drilling under the bottom of the Odra River and modernized the quay, including the surface, water and sewage systems, and the dock facilities. The biggest challenges included: dredging the water area, driving steel piles and sheet piles up to 30 meters long, and reinforced concrete works carried out from the water in variable hydrological conditions.
Another advanced hydrotechnical challenge is behind us. Today, we are closing a major project, while opening Gryfia Shipyard to new horizons and production opportunities. We are proud that such a qualitative change in a Polish shipyard could happen thanks to the DORACO team. I am convinced that the new dock will bring real benefits to the economy of Western Pomerania. Dynamic investments in maritime infrastructure are a good sign for the domestic industry, especially in view of the growth in maritime transport and offshore services,” says Angelika Cieślowska, President of the Management Board of Korporacja Budowlana DORACO.
The completed modernization lays the foundation for the further development of the shipyard, enabling it to meet future market challenges. The installation of the new floating dock No. 8 will be another milestone for the entire company, Szczecin, as well as for the shipbuilding industry in Western Pomerania.
