Security in the Baltic Sea and the strengthening of Polish-Swedish defense cooperation were the main topics of the Baltic Sea Security Talks conference, which took place on March 12 at the Wybrzeże Theatre in Gdańsk. Morska Stocznia Remontowa "Gryfia" S.A. declares its readiness and points to the strategic importance of the participation of West Pomeranian shipyards in the "Orka" submarine acquisition program, which is crucial for Polish defense.
Historic summit meeting The event, organized by the Casimir Pulaski Foundation, gathered representatives of the authorities, the military, and leading enterprises of the maritime and defense industries from Poland and Sweden. The prestige of the conference was graced by the presence of the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, as well as the defense ministers of both countries – Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Pål Jonson. Morska Stocznia Remontowa "Gryfia" was represented by: Lech Lechmański, Member of the Management Board of MSR "Gryfia" S.A., and Daniel Opas, Commercial Director of the shipyard.
The talks focused on common security interests in the Baltic Sea and the prospects for the development of a strategic partnership. As emphasized during the meeting, Poland and Sweden are setting the tone in Europe today when it comes to building partnership and resilience against modern threats.
The voice of MSR "Gryfia" in the expert debate An important point of the program was a discussion panel with the participation of industry representatives: "Beyond the Keynotes: Swedish and Polish Industry Weighs In". West Pomeranian shipyards were represented by Daniel Opas, who took an active part in the debate on the potential for cooperation and the implementation of innovative technologies in the shipbuilding industry.
"Polish repair and construction shipyards have been cooperating with contractors and shipowners from Sweden for years, and this cooperation is going well. A completely new opening and a huge opportunity for the Polish shipbuilding industry will be the implementation of the "Orka" program, which will enable cooperation between the Swedish Saab group and Polish shipyards for the coming decades in connection with the operation of submarines. The Gryfia Shipyard declares its readiness to participate in this project in the field of performing service inspections, modifications, running and class repairs, the so-called MRO services. On Thursday, we witnessed the signing of an agreement concerning the implementation of this type of work between Saab and the PGZ group, but we believe that for Poland's defense potential, it is important that the west coast shipyards, including MSR Gryfia, also participate in the MRO program and are also prepared to provide maintenance services for submarines, not only Polish, but also Swedish ones. In the event of a potential conflict on the eastern flank, the West Pomeranian shipyards will constitute a natural repair base for the navy, which is why they should participate in the Orka program. We are also ready to participate in the offset program in the field of construction and repair of special vessels, dual-use, ferries, auxiliary, and offshore vessels. Also important is the close location of the Szczecin and Świnoujście ports in relation to the ports in Sweden, Ystad and Trelleborg, and the regular ferry connections, which makes this area of the Baltic Sea strategically important for the security of Poland and Sweden."
MSR "Gryfia" thereby confirms its readiness to participate in the "Orka" program, which is crucial for Polish defense!
